Downey Selected as Delegate to Republican National Convention

Macon attorney and Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (GTLA) member Jason E. Downey of Carr Downey, LLC, was selected as one of three National Delegates to represent the Eighth Congressional District of Georgia at the Republican National Convention in August 2012.

“I’m honored beyond words to be voted as a representative of my District to be a National Delegate,” said Downey. “I look forward to representing the Eighth Congressional District and the State of Georgia in Tampa at the National Convention.”

Since January of this year, Downey has served as Bibb County Campaign Chairman for Mitt Romney and plans to continue in that role through the Presidential Election in November.  He is also running for a seat on the Bibb County Board of Education amidst a storm of controversy concerning the education system in Macon.

Since joining GTLA in January 2010, Downey has taken an active role as a trial lawyer. He is President of the Macon Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and is slated to be installed as a GTLA Vice-President at the 2012 Annual Convention.

Woodward Receives Recognition for Fighting Cyberbullying

GTLA member Natalie Woodward of Woodward & Stern, LLC,  in Roswell is making headlines for helping a 14-year-old Cobb County student protect herself from peers who created a fake Facebook page with distorted images and false claims about her.

Alexandria "Alex" Boston learned about the Facebook page from her friends and classmates informed her that it was created by another boy and girl at her school.  Alex and her parents tried to have the problem addressed by the school, the police, and Facebook without success. After the page remained online for almost a year, Woodward filed a defamation suit against the two classmates and their parents in Cobb County Superior Court.

Woodward told the Fulton County Daily Report she explained to the family, "I can't promise you that there is any financial benefit to this.  If your true goal is to make a change, I think we can do that."

Woodward is an active GTLA member who participated in GTLA's Lawyer of the Day program during the 2012 legislative session.
