Georgia Trial Lawyers Association Names 2014 Legislators of the Year
Senator Josh McKoon, Representative Stacey Evans Recognized for Commitment to Georgia’s Civil Justice System
Atlanta, GA – The Georgia Trial Lawyers Association has announced that State Senator Josh McKoon (R – Columbus) and State Representative Stacey Evans (D – Smyrna) have been named as the Association’s 2014 Legislators of the Year. This award, which is given on an individual basis to state or federal legislators who have provided exceptional support to Georgia’s Civil Justice System, is the highest honor bestowed upon elected officials by GTLA.
“On behalf of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association’s 2,000 members across the state, I’d like to congratulate Senator McKoon and Representative Evans on their receipt of this well-deserved honor,” said GTLA President Buck Rogers. “The Civil Justice System and the Right to Trial by Jury are under near-constant assault at our State Capitol, and it is only through the diligence of legislators like Josh and Stacey that Georgians’ rights are safeguarded and protected. We look forward to working with these bright lawyer-legislators for many years to come.”
The two legislators were recognized at GTLA’s Annual Convention in Atlanta on April 24th & 25th.
“I am honored to receive recognition from such a fine group of attorneys who fight every day to make sure justice is accessible to everyone, regardless of their means,” remarked Representative Evans. “Without equal access to the courthouse, justice dies. As a legislator and lawyer, I am dedicated to continuing to do what I can to ensure the courthouse doors stay open to everyone”.
"It is vital that our Legislature adhere to basic constitutional principles, including the Right to Trial by Jury. It has been my great privilege to fight for those principles under the Gold Dome and I am honored that GTLA has recognized my efforts with this award," said Senator McKoon.
