Message from President Pope Langdale
Welcome, and thank you for allowing me to serve as your 2016-2017 GTLA President! As I work my way into the role, it is my goal to spread the message of unity, cohesiveness, collectivity and strength to all our members across this state and to all of those who are not yet members, but should be. As my predecessors Darren Penn and Linley Jones spent many hours and covered countless miles traveling the state to visit with our local members, I will likewise do the same. I believe it is incredibly important for our members outside of the metro Atlanta area to connect with the leadership of GTLA to be reminded that GTLA is truly a statewide organization.
I hope to be the voice of GTLA that lets our members hear loud and clear that our mission at GTLA is to protect and promote the civil justice system and its application to every trial lawyer in every county and court in this state. As such, we have implemented initiatives, including the GTLA Justice Tour, to not only better connect with our members across the state, but to also serve as a better resource for them as an association and in legislative issues. I also believe that we as trial lawyers are stronger leaders in our community when we are viewed as more than simply a lawyer. I want to encourage each member to get more involved in their community in areas outside of the practice of law, such as on charitable boards, their churches and civic organizations. Being an active leader in your community, that the citizens and business leaders respect and listen to, strengthens your voice when discussing civil justice issues with your legislators, and informing them about how an issue may affect their constituents. And indirectly, it will help you identify with prospective jurors, who will know you as a leader outside the legal profession.
In addition to these goals that I have for our Association this year, I am often reminded as I meet with the GTLA staff, leadership and members across the state that I am following in the footsteps of giants, and I am fortunate to carry on the great work of so many GTLA Presidents that came before me. I am grateful to each of you for trusting me to lead the finest group of lawyers anywhere in the country, and I sincerely look forward to working with each of you during my term as President of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. Now, let’s get to work!

Since 1956, GTLA has worked tirelessly to ensure that everyday citizens, Georgia families and small businesses are never deprived of their constitutional guarantee of access to true justice. The Mission of GTLA is simple: We are dedicated to protecting the Constitutional promise of justice for all by guaranteeing the right to trial by jury, preserving an independent judiciary, and providing access to the courts for all Georgians.
